
Amala Mandal
Amala Mandal, 32, belongs to a poor family. Collecting honey and crabs from the jungle was the main source of income of her family. Her hsuaband was the sole earning mmber. The financial condition of her family was not steady enough. The lurking danger of being attcked by the Royal Bengal Tiger was always there. Amala, observing her husband’s hard work for family survival, decided to do something to support her family as well as to provide proper education to her children. She wanted to earn as well and lessen the burden of he husband.

One day, she spoke with one of the field workers of SARANI and came to know about the Vocational Training Programme on Garment Making. This small conversation changed her life seriously. She then joined the Garment Making training during the year 2017 and completed it successfully. Her efforts were sincere and brilliant; she has now become a successful entrepreneur and running a tailoring shop known as ‘Bithika Tailors’. Now she has a purchased a Sewing machine and a shop that can sustain her family.

Pratibha Mondal
Collecting crabs and fish from the jungle was the primary source of her income. Infact, one of her family member was also attacked by Royal Bengal Tiger. Although the risk of life was there but still her family continued to pursue the same profession as there was no second option for the poor family. She was then informed about the Garment making program. She was not at all motivated at the beginning to be a part of the program. But she had the vision becoming a self-dependent woman and the fixture of garment making suited her intention and by now seriously engaged with the garment making program. Her husband also was really cooperative. Her husband took a commendable step, he borrowed some money and bought her shop and respective equipment so that she can showcase her talent and at the same time earn something and run the family in a better manner. At present Pratibha Mondal earns a considerable amount from the above mentioned shop and does not visit the forest so often as earlier. Now she aims at establishing herself the garment making field to uplift the status of her family where the earning of bread does not lead to death.

Sita Mondal

Sita resides with her husband and two school going children in Samsernagar village. Her husband does not have any regular monthly income as because he works as a labour in paddy fields.

She was selected by SARANI to undergo training on vermin-compost manure preparation. She took the training seriously and immediately started the vermicomposting since from 2017-18. During this period she was able to get 4-5 quintals of vermin-compost manure from her pit. She sold out 3 quintals of manure of Rs. 3600/- (@rs.12/- per kg). She got profit of Rs. 2100/- (@Rs.7/- per kg).
Out of 160 kgs of manure, some of it have been used in kitchen garden to grow vegetables like potato, lady finger, pumpkin and few green leafy vegetables. Few vegetables were consumed by her family members and she also sold out vegetables in the local market and got a profit of Rs. 500/- per month. Some of the manure was kept stocked in her house so that she would use it for vegetable cultivation in the near future.
Jaya Bayen
Jaya Bayen is one of the local resident of Samshernagar area which is siutuated in the extreme island of Sundarban. Her husband Shubhendu kumar Bayen is a wage earner and runs his family with extreme hurdle. They have five members in the famiuly including husband, mother-in-law, daughter and son. Her daughter age is 6 years. When Jaya was in class VII she got early marriage. Although she was against such early marriage but have to surrender to her parents. She then promised to make her children educated so that they may find a place in the society
Jaya was a housewife. She was the victim of domestic violence.she was torture mentally and physically by husband and in laws. One day she spoke with one of the member of SARANI and know about the Garment Making programme. SARANI, observing her keenness for undergoing training, admitted her in the training programme. Then she joined the Garment Making training. Her effort is sincere and brilliant. she is successfully engaged in the job for last two years. Even though facing many difficulties she started her own business. She bought a sewing machine. Now she gets order of supplying readymade garments on the demand of local people. She makes blouse, nightwear, churidar, kurti, pajama and shirts pants etc. She gradually making her dream comes true. She earns money and spends money for children’s education and family expenditure.

Mangala Sarkar (Roy)
Mangala, an energetic young lady of around 34 years was a happy house wife when her husband was a worker in a Local Jute Mill. Suddenly, a devastating fire destroyed the entire Jute Mill leaving all the workers jobless. The owners of the Jute Mill, on getting the compensation from the Insurance Company absconded and none could trace them. It was a bolt from the blue for the family. Her husband became a wage earner whose income could not suffice the family expenditure. Finding no other way for survival, Mangala joined the Training programme on “Beautician Course” during the year 2013 and immediately on completion of the training, she joined a Beauty Parlour and started earning an amount of Rs. 2000/- per month initially with Tiffin in the noon.
At present she is working with a reputed Beauty Parlour viz. Puja Beauty Parlour” of the area and earning an amount of Rs. 6000/- per month. Besides, she is working as a flying Beautician and earning an amount not less than Rs. 8000/- on an average per month. Thus her total income per month comes to around Rs. 14000/-. Now she is leading a happy life along with her family members and able to carry on the study of her children.

She expressed her gratefulness to FVTRS as well as SARANI for allowing her the opportunity of availing the training.
Sathi Gayen
Sathi Gayen is a 13 year old girl, who is a student of Medha Bikash centre 3 in Samsernagar. She belongs to a lower income means below poverty family. Her parents work as daily labour and farmers. She is staying with parents, grandmother and she has one siblings in her family. Sathi is an intelligent student but due to her family condition she does not brush up her educational life in a good way.

Her parents never agreed to send her daughter to study. Her Parents are pressing her for marriage. But Sathi Always wants to be a good person and a good student. She continued her study in any way but she didn’t because of her family pressure. Our teacher and coordinator visited her house and convinced her parents to send her to our education centre. Now she takes great interest in studies and significantly improves herself.
Sathi also wants to become a Teacher. Now she is in level seven, she is a good student in the centre and comes regularly.
Girls like Sathi come forward in the society against her parents, she studies on their own without getting married to escape from the financial condition of the family at an early age. SARANI will try to help her to make her dream come true.

Mamoni Mondal
Mamoni belongs to a very poor family, her father is a daily-labour and mother is a housewife. She has one younger brother. She knows their parents work very hard in order to provide proper food so studying is a luxury for her. She wants to achieve something that will make her parents proud and will also help them and her brother to live a happy life.

But she was not getting any chance to pursue her education and SARANI made this chance. The project of Medha Bikash is a strong necessity for children like Mamoni. Mamoni faced many challenges but she always took challenges as an opportunity to carry forward her dream. She wants to become a Teacher and teach underprivileged girls like herself. Now she has learnt beautiful values of life.
Teachers who are involved in this project are doing an excellent job for their student’s bright future. She is a very bright and good student. We hope that Mamoni will achieve good marks in Secondary Examination and fulfil her dream.
